The Memory
Today, I went to watch a Thai movie. My first time on the big screen. That's not to undermine the quality of Thai movies but I haven't seen one that would compel me to go and watch it at the theater. Until now, that is.
The movie is The Memory or its Thai title Ruk Jung (I Love You Very Much). (There was an English subtitle of course.)
It stars Film (yes, that is his English screen name) or Rattapoom Tokongsub and Paula Taylor (Thai screen name: Punlapa Taylor).
Film plays himself as a popular actor who gets into an accident while driving up in the north and loses his memory.

Paula is Jah, a paparazzi, who follows him around and eventually finds him in the northern town where some tribe people had found him.

Of course, in the course of their stay in the mountains, they fall in love. Then, as you very well know how this would turn out, Film regains his memory, goes back to his old life and could not even remember Jah.
I had reservations watching this movie because I do not like Film. I find his hairstyle quite weird. Is he losing hair that he has to cover up some bald spots? It's not like he is not handsome that he needs to cover his face. It makes him look untidy, but well, he is famous in this country so it must be the hair.
I like Paula on the other hand. She's refreshing. Back in RP, her manner of acting would have been considered pa-cute or maarte in the style of Anne Curtis (Paula is also half-Australian I think), but surprisingly, she does not come out annoying.
The movie was fun but I credit that to the supporting cast, mainly the three actors playing the tribe people. They stole the show from the main stars. Plus the cinematography was breathtaking. I have heard that the north is really beautiful and that beauty is showcased to its advantage in this movie.
Besides, I've always been a sucker of romantic stories. And it has been a while since I watched a nice romantic movie. This doesn't do so bad.
And in the end, Film wasn't really bad either. I think I understand now his appeal.
